Dutyholders Under the Building Regulations

The Building Regulations set out several key dutyholders involved in the design and construction of a project.

It is important that building owners understand who these dutyholders are and what responsibilities each one has.

There are three main dutyholders:

  1. Client (including Domestic Clients)
  2. Principal Designer
  3. Principal Contractor

If a project only involves one designer or one contractor, they must take on the relevant principal role and the responsibilities that go with it.
