Accessing building control plans
Building control plans are protected by copyright and are not published online, unlike planning drawings. Property owners may view these plans, provided the work was completed within the last 15 years. Copies cannot be taken. This applies even if the plans were submitted by a previous owner.
If you are acting on behalf of the property owner, written consent is required. An email from the owner is acceptable as proof of consent.
Building control plans relating to a property I do not own
Plans deposited with a local authority under the Building Regulations are not documents which the public are entitled to inspect under the Local Government Act 1972. However, with the owners written authorisation you may be able to view the plans.
Building control applications supervised by private Registered Building Control Approvers
We do not hold construction details, plans or inspection notes for applications where the building control was supervised by a private inspector. In such instances you will be advised of the appointed RBCA and directed to contact them with your enquiry.
