Building Strong Futures Together: A Busy Few Weeks in Our Communities

At Southern Building Control Partnership, building strong futures goes beyond the work we do on construction projects. The last few weeks have been filled with opportunities to meet local businesses, community organisations and young people from across Tandridge, Mole Valley and Reigate & Banstead.

Celebrating Apprenticeships and Local Business Success

Our Partnership Business Manager has been out and about visiting finalists in the Tandridge Business Awards 2026 as part of our sponsorship of the Apprentice of the Year Award.

As category sponsor, we met the finalists alongside fellow judge Surrey Chambers of Commerce, hearing first-hand about the achievements, ambitions and dedication that have earned them a place in the finals.

Each business demonstrated a genuine commitment to developing talent and investing in people. Seeing the different ways apprenticeships are being used across a variety of sectors only reinforces our belief in the value of apprenticeships and the opportunities they create for both individuals and employers.

A huge thank you to Tandridge District Council for shining a spotlight on the fantastic organisations operating within the district and for all the hard work that goes into organising the awards.

The awards programme has continued this week as our Business Manager joins visits for the Community Service Provider Award.

This category is sponsored by Lingfield Park Resort, with us supporting the judging process as the second judge.

Giving Old Hard Hats a New Purpose

Earlier this year, we donated a number of retired hard hats to Pandas Nursery as part of our commitment to reducing waste while supporting local learning.

We were delighted to receive an update showing just how creatively the children have put them to use.

The hard hats have become part of imaginative role play activities, helping children explore, create and learn through play. Some have even been transformed into colourful plant pots, giving children the opportunity to learn about nature and growing plants while giving old equipment a completely new purpose.

It’s wonderful to see items that might otherwise have gone to waste being repurposed in ways that support learning, creativity and sustainability.

Supporting the Next Generation

Engaging with young people and promoting careers within the built environment remains an important part of what we do and over recent weeks, we’ve been pleased to host another university student and a student from Oxted School, who were both a pleasure to have.

Providing students with an insight into Building Control helps them understand the varied career opportunities available within the industry and the important role Building Control professionals play in creating safe, sustainable buildings.

We always enjoy working with Oxted School and look forward to continuing to support young people from across Tandridge, Mole Valley and Reigate & Banstead as they explore future education and career opportunities.

Looking Ahead

As we move further into the summer and many people begin taking well-earned holidays, it is great to reflect on just how much can be achieved through partnership and collaboration.

We’d like to thank everyone we’ve worked with over the last few weeks and look forward to continuing these partnerships in the months ahead.
