Work Experience Highlights the Value of Collaboration Between Architecture and Building Control

At Southern Building Control Partnership (SBCP), we are passionate about supporting the next generation of construction professionals and providing opportunities for students to experience the industry first-hand.

Recently, we welcomed a work experience student who is currently training to become an architect. Over two days, he joined our Building Control Inspectors on a range of site visits, gaining valuable insight into the role of building control and the importance of compliance throughout the construction process.

Gaining a Broader Industry Perspective

The placement provided exposure to a wide variety of projects at different stages of construction, from inspecting foundation trenches for residential extensions to reviewing work on large developments.

Several colleagues commented on how engaged and enthusiastic our visitor was throughout his time with us, asking thoughtful questions and showing a genuine interest in all aspects of building control.

Our LABC Registered Building Inspector Apprentice also found the experience particularly valuable. Through discussions on site and answering questions about inspections and regulations, it became clear just how much knowledge and practical experience he has already developed during his apprenticeship journey.

Sometimes sharing knowledge with others is the best reminder of how far you’ve come.
