Prestigious Awards for our local architects and builders

Building control manager presenting LABC trophy to winnersThe LABC SE Awards presentations weren't as glamorous as usual but our winners were more than happy to see Mark our building control manager yesterday. Normally the Awards are presented at a black tie event at The Grand Hotel, Brighton, when construction industry colleagues gather to celebrate some of the best projects and people from across the South East.  However, thanks to Covid it couldn't happen this year but it did give us an opportunity to revisit two of the winning projects and reaffirm exactly why they won.

In the main picture above, Mark is seen presenting Aaron Shrubb of Shrubb Construction with the award for Best Local Builder. Having watched the Shrubb team grow from strength to strength, as has their reputation for quality, we know the award is totally justified and look forward to working with them on many more successful projects in the future. Coincidentally, Aaron served his time with a previous winner of the coveted title which clearly set him up for a bright future.

A drop of rain didn't stop us presenting an award to George Burn of GB Architectural Design and Murtha Kavanagh of Kavbro Build for their first class team work on a stunning new build nestled into the hillside at Warlingham. Adopting a hybrid construction of Black Mountain Welsh quarry stone to the external envelope at ground level as part of a masonry construction and a sustainable timber framed first floor this elegant new home brings both landscape and structure together. Our team provided the building control service and we worked alongside LABC Warranty who provided the structural warranty. George and Murtha have worked succesfully together on many projects in the past and it was good to finally see this recognised.

Award wining project a new house built of Welsh quarry stone

Building control manager presenting trophy to winnersOur third presentation was to Deborah Dalton, architect and John Hunt of Mitchells of Horley. Deborah worked in conjunction with architect Shaun Earle to design a living/working space from a redundant steel frame grain store in South Godstone. Deborah went on to project manage the build and John and his team carried out all the detailed construction work to a very high standard. The result is a light and airy contemporary space that draws in the agricultural view and blends with the rural surroundings. Use of traditional materials such as copper roofing and red cedar cladding complement the feel of the exposed steel  and expanses of glazing. The property is now for sale and whilst it is a one off, Deborah hopes that the project will demonstrate what can be done with similar redundant buildings in the area.

If you have an outstanding project you would like to nominate to the LABC SE Awards 2021 please get in contact or visit the LABC website here. Projects must be inspected by LABC and have completed by the end of 2020 to qualify for next year's nominations.
